In 25 years (1948-72) compiled a 352-76 record for a .822 winning percentage. In a 3-year run from 1958-60 his teams had a 4r4-2 record, including a 33-game winning streak. Coached undefeated teams in 1959 (17-0) and 1964 (18-0). State tournament play started in 1967 and his teams won 5 sectionals, 4 regionals and 2 semi-states. His 1969 team was runner-up in state and his final team in 1972 won the state championship. Inducted into the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979. The field at Bloomington South is named after him. Died at age 55 in 1977.
