Star of BHS Final 4 team (lost at State to Franklin “Wonder 5”) … at IU, All-Big Ten, No. 2 conference scorer as junior … passed up senior year to be IU’s sixth Rhodes Scholar, still only one ever from basketball program … career-high 19 points in comeback (from 10 points down) to beat Purdue, 39-36 …also lettered tennis, track at IU (1924-25) … Arbutus called him “deadly from almost any spot on the floor – did some of the finest quick passing ever seen in the conference – a great tip-shot artist under the basket, and a lightning feeder to the other scoring stars” … IU’s first head tennis coach (1930), also basketball assistant … outstanding career in publishing (Look Magazine editor), New Hampshire politics (Speaker of House, state legislature) … inducted IU Athletics Hall of Fame 2011.
