Each year the Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame honors local athletes, coaches, contributors, and humanitarians.

2024 Scholarship Winners

Each year scholarships are awarded to outstanding male and female senior scholar-athletes attending Bloomington North, Bloomington South and Edgewood High Schools during a separate ceremony.

On This Day in 1976 2011 Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame Inductee Jennifer Hooker Finished 6th in the Women's Swimming 200 Meter Freestyle at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal Quebec Canada Hooker Finished 2nd in the fourth heat and qualified 7th for the final. ... See MoreSee Less

The Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame was founded in 2009 and in 2010 was incorporated as Indiana not for profit and qualified as a 5012(c)(3) charitable organization.

In 2011 the first awards banquet was held that the Monroe Convention Center, honoring 15 charter class of 15 plus 6 scholarship winners. The first plaque was hung at Fountain Square Mall.

In 2015 the Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame participated in a community effort to place markers on 11 unmarked graves of African Americans at Rose Hill Cemetery.

In 2019 the first Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame Golf Tournament was held at the Cascades Golf Course.

In 2020 there was 10 member Pioneer Class inducted that Pre-Dates 1960 and hung a plaque in Fountain Square Mall unable to hold the awards banquet due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

In 2021 The Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame rebounded from 2020 with a fully attended awards banquet.

This past Friday the Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame Inducted our 14th Class of bringing the total to 147 Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame inductees and 6 more scholarship winners bringing that total to 78 and $72,000 awarded to scholarship winners from Bloomington North, Bloomington South and Edgewood HS. The Class of 2024 Plaque will be added to the wall of plaques that hang in Fountain Square Mall in Downtown Bloomington.
